What do you mean I can’t take a shower?

These were the exact words a client said while being gurney’d to have a central venous catheter inserted.

That was almost a non-starter. Our client decided that she was not going to accept “no shower”. She scoured the Internet and found KORshield.

A venous catheter is a traumatic event. It is bundled in with everything else that goes into starting hemodialysis. And taking a shower is one of those “little” things that we all take for granted until it is taken away from us.

Dr Adel Korkor, a board-certified clinical nephrologist, heard the same stories from so many of his patients, he had to do something. He spent several years working out how to allow his patients the joy of a shower, but protecting the catheter area from direct water contact. The result is the KORshield.

KORshield Catheter Protector

The KORshield is a simple, reusable product that keeps shower water from reaching your catheter site. A non-latex rubber seal fits snugly around your neck, and the cape covers the catheter area so that you can wash your hair, your face, enjoy having hot water pulse on your scalp – all the things you were told you can’t do anymore.

The cape lifts up so that you can carefully wash around your catheter as your healthcare professional teaches you.

Once you are done with your shower, you simply pull the KORshield over you head, hang on plastic hanger and let it dry. It is ready to take a shower when you are.

Simple. No disposable components to replace. Reusable…and unconditionally guaranteed for a full year.

The KORshield is $49.95 plus shipping and taxes (if applicable)

If you have questions, the easiest and quickest is to just pick up the phone and call. Our toll free number is 1-888-822-4695. We are available live from 9AM-5PM CST or leave a message and we will return your call the next day.

The most common question we get is “how fast can I get the KORshield?” The answer is that typically we ship out the next business day via US Postal Service Priority Mail. Typically, it take 2 to 3 days. If you need it faster, we do offer expedited delivery, including next day.

The second most common question is “what size should I order?” The size is dependent on you neck circumference.

It’s an easy measurement. You can use a flexible ruler (like a flexible measuring tape used for sewing) or just a piece of string. Don’t use yarn, because it stretches too much. Measure at the middle of the neck (Adam’s apple area) to the nearest 1/2″. When you are ready to order, choose the size that spans your neck size.

Are there alternate ways to cover a catheter before showering? Yes and most of them concerned Dr Korkor so much, he felt he had to design a better way – the KORshield.

It is designed to:

  • Not require disposables (that are expensive to replace),
  • Be easy to get on and off,
  • Simple to store (just put the KORshield on a plastic hanger and hang in the shower)
  • Reusable
